It involves incubating a sample of urine on a growth medium which allows bacteria to multiply if there are any present.
For instance, if you have had a high-protein meal before taking the test, protein levels in your urine may be elevated and lead to misinterpretation of results. Similarly, consuming vitamin supplements or medications before taking the test can also alter its accuracy. Therefore, it is generally recommended that you avoid eating any food or taking medication at least two hours prior to giving a urine sample for routine testing purposes.
